CHINLEY: TODAY'S ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS SEND A CLEAR MESSAGE Today, your local Safer Neighbourhood Team has been out carrying out patrols across Chinley, tackling issues raised by the community and taking action against behaviour that puts others at risk.
Dangerous Parking Enforcement A vehicle was issued with a ticket after being found parked dangerously close to a junction. This isn't simply an inconvenience. Parking near junctions restricts visibility for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. In an area where children regularly walk to and from school, obscured sight lines can have devastating consequences. Drivers need to see children stepping into the road, and children need to be able to see approaching traffic. There is no excuse for parking in a way that endangers others. A few moments of convenience for one driver could result in a lifetime of consequences for another.
Officers also seized an electric scooter being ridden in Chinley. Many people are still unaware that privately owned electric scooters are illegal to use on public roads, pavements and other public spaces. They do not meet legal requirements for road use and are not covered by the insurance, licensing and safety regulations required for motor vehicles. Electric scooters pose a real risk to both riders and pedestrians. They are often used silently, can reach significant speeds, and are frequently ridden without protective equipment. We've seen incidents nationwide involving serious injuries and collisions. If you're thinking about riding an electric scooter in a public place, think again. You could lose your scooter, receive penalties, and most importantly, put yourself and others at risk.
